Biography
Liu Yang was born in 1978 in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. She was recruited into the PLA Air Force in 1997 and was trained in the Changchun Flight Academy as a pilot. In 2001, she graduated with a Bachelor degree and served in the PLAAF 13th Air Division as a cargo plane pilot. During her service, she was qualified on four aircraft types and had successfully handled a bird strike incident and landed her aircraft safely.
In 2010, Liu Yang was among the 15 female finalists for the selection of China’s first female astronaut candidates. She was finally selected along with other six pilots to join the Chinese astronaut corps.
